Dario

Queste immagini state inviate a "Ferrea Mole" da Dario che ha prestato servizio tra il 1991 ed il 1992 come caporalmaggiore presso il 4° Btg. Carri della Brigata Legnano ospitato nelle caserme di Solbiate Olona. Dario non solo ha inviato le sue foto ma ha anche curato le esaurienti didascalie. 	Equipaggi del 4° Btg. Carri "M.O. Passalacqua" di fronte ad un Leopard all’interno della caserma "Ugo Mara" di Solbiate Olona (VA), in occasione della cerimonia per il cambio del comandante di Btg. nel settembre 1991. La caserma, risalente agli inizi del secolo ed utilizzata durante la I G.M. come campo di concentramento per prigionieri cecoslovacchi, è stata radicalmente rinnovata ed ingrandita all’inizio degli anni ’90: un dettagliato articolo, a tale proposito, con numerose foto ed illustrazioni, è apparso sulla rivista "Quarry & Construction" nel 1993. Notare l’uniforme estiva in uso all’epoca, caratterizzata dalla giacca "sahariana", forse poco marziale ma decisamente comoda e fresca da portare; il personale ritratto la indossa assieme agli anfibi ed al cinturone (all’epoca ancora il vecchio modello inglese del 1937) nella cosiddetta combinazione "SAE3", utilizzata per compiti di picchetto armato durante le cerimonie. Tankers in front of a Leopard from IV Tank Btn. "Ugo Passalacqua" (the IV Btn. bears the name of an Italian Lieutenant that fought and died on the Yugoslavian front in 1941, during WW II) in the "Ugo Mara" barracks in Solbiate Olona (VA), NW Italy, after an official ceremony in September, 1991. The barracks, that was built early in the XX^th century and served during WW I as a prison camp for Czech POW, in the early ‘90s has undergone a deep reconstruction and enlargement. Tankers are wearing the summer "ceremony" dress issued in the late ‘80s, with the "Saharan style" shirt, together with combat boots and belt (still from the British ’37 pattern webbing): this dress, known as "SAE3" dress, was in use for drill during official ceremonies.

	Ottobre 1991: un carro Leopard del IV Btg. appostato tra la vegetazione nella zona di Turbigo, nei pressi dell’aeroporto di Malpensa; a lato del carro è stato preparato, unendo insieme dei teli tenda, il riparo per l’equipaggio. 	Carri Leopard del IV Btg. in movimento sul poligono di Candelo-Massazza nel febbraio 1992; il fango e la polvere aiutano a mimetizzare i mezzi nell’ambiente circostante, piuttosto arido nel periodo invernale, molto simile alla steppa russa. Moving on a clayey soil, the tanks are covered with mud and dust, so their color has changed from olive drab to a brownish tone. The crews are wearing black leather jackets and the issued helmet of the time, a copy of the helmet used by US tankers in WWII.

Carri, rinforzata con un plotone della 1^a Compagnia (nella quale ha prestato servizio l’Autore), faceva parte del "Gruppo Tattico Yugoslavia", una forza di spedizione a livello di battaglione destinata ad un possibile impiego come "Caschi Blu" in Bosnia. At that time, the 2^nd Company of the IV Tank Btn., reinforced with a platoon from the 1^st Company (the one in wich served the Autor), operated as a part of the "Yugoslavia Task Force", a battalion-sized expeditionary force that was preparing for a possible use as a UN interposition force in Bosnia.

	Candelo-Massazza, febbraio 1992: si scovola il cannone L7 da 105/51 di un Leopard. Notare il quantitativo di terra e fango accumulato sul carro, che ha assunto un colore marrone giallastro. 	Poligono di Monteromano (Italia Centrale), maggio 1992: elicotteri anticarro AH1W dei Marines in azione durante l’esercitazione NATO "Dragon Hammer ‘92". Nell’atto tattico principale questi velivoli hanno appoggiato l’elisbarco del partito "marrone", utilizzando missili TOW, razzi e cannoni gatling da 20 mm e decimando i Leopard ed i VCC del partito "verde". Playing enemies, they covered with ATGW, rockets and 20 mm gatling gun fire the vertical assault of the "Brown" forces, inflicting heavy casualties to the Leopard tanks and APCs of the "Green" forces.
	"Il mio (ex) nemico": l’Autore di fronte ad un T72M di costruzione sovietica. Notare la ridotta altezza del veicolo, esposto al "Memoriale della Guerra Fredda" di New York, sul molo presso il quale è ormeggiata la portaerei – museo galleggiante "Intrepid". "My (former) enemy": Author in front of a soviet-built T72M, exposed at the "Cold-War Memorial" in New York City, on the pier near the "Intrepid" museum (a former U.S. Navy aircraft carrier sporting on his deck a huge collection of aircrafts ad helicopters). Note the low profile of the tank.
